Taxes and fees are genuinely included — Total's FCC broadband label lists government taxes as covered and provider monthly fees at $0.00 — so $95 is what leaves the account. Every line is separately unlimited rather than drawing on a shared pool, which removes the usual family argument about who used the data. And the five-year price guarantee means the number doesn't drift, which matters more across four lines than one. Each line also gets 10GB of hotspot and unlimited calling to and from Mexico.

The catch: The per-line curve flattens hard: $95 at four lines becomes $125 at five, so a fifth line costs $30 rather than the $23.75 average suggests. STARTER also lacks 5G Ultra Wideband, which the MAX tiers include.

How prepaid family pricing actually works

There is no shared allowance. On every plan here each line gets its own data, which removes the single biggest source of family friction and means one heavy user can't spoil the month for everyone else. That's the structural advantage prepaid has over most postpaid family plans.

What varies is how the discount curves. Total Wireless STARTER runs $35, $75, $85, $95, then $125 at five lines. Total MAX 5G BYO runs $25, $55, $85, $105, $135 — cheaper at one and two lines, more expensive at four. Cricket's Select Unlimited is $100 flat at four. H2O holds $25 per line from two to four. The cheapest carrier genuinely changes depending on how many lines you're buying.

Taxes matter more across four lines than one. Cricket, Metro and Total include them; Ultra Mobile, H2O, Straight Talk and T-Mobile add them at checkout, typically 7–10%, which on a $100 family bill is $7–10 a month you didn't budget for.

Do all the lines have to be on the same plan?

On most prepaid carriers, yes — the multi-line rate applies to one plan across the account. Total Wireless, Cricket and H2O all price this way, so a family picks one tier and everyone gets it.

That's a real constraint if the household is mixed. A teenager who streams and a grandparent who barely uses data will pay the same. T-Mobile postpaid is the exception here: lines on one account can sit on different Experience tiers, which is worth the extra cost for households with genuinely different needs.

What about hotspot?

This is where the cheap family plans thin out. Cricket Select Unlimited has no hotspot without a paid add-on. T-Mobile Essentials has none on any line. Total STARTER includes 10GB per line, Ultra Mobile 10GB, and H2O 5GB.

If more than one person in the household tethers, Total MAX 5G BYO is the plan to price — unlimited 5 Mbps hotspot on every line, which no capped allowance matches for a family working off laptops.
