T-Mobile's deals page leads with offers for people switching from another carrier, like $1,200 off the iPhone Duo with no trade-in. Existing customers can still get big discounts, but the route is different: trade in an eligible phone, or add a new line, usually on an Experience More or Experience Beyond plan. Every phone deal is paid as monthly bill credits over up to 36 months, so the real question is whether you're happy to stay that long.

Switch-only deals existing customers can't get
- iPhone Duo, $1,200 off with no trade-in: requires switching and bringing your number on Experience Beyond.
- iPhone 17e and iPhone 17 On Us with no trade-in: switch and bring your number.
- Family Freedom: up to $800 a line to pay off your old phones, for people switching up to four lines.
- "NOTHING": $0 out of pocket on a new phone (no taxes, fees or down payment) when you switch.
- $720 back on Essentials Saver ($20 a month for 36 months) when you switch and keep your number.
If you're an existing customer, the closest you'll get to these is the trade-in version of the same phone offer, where one exists. For the iPhone Duo, T-Mobile's page only lists the switcher offer, so check with T-Mobile or in the T-Life app for an upgrade price.
Existing customers on Experience Beyond can trade in an eligible phone in any condition for up to $1,200 off, paid as monthly bill credits over up to 36 months.

What "up to $1,200 off" really costs
T-Mobile's discounts aren't taken off the phone's price. You finance the phone over 36 months, and T-Mobile credits your bill each month to cancel the installment. Leave early or pay the phone off early, and the credits stop. The plan you need is part of the cost too.
| Plan | Monthly price, 1 line | 36 months of service | Extra vs Experience More |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essentials Saver | $50 | $1,800 | Not eligible for most phone deals |
| Experience More | $85 | $3,060 | n/a |
| Experience Beyond | $100 | $3,600 | +$540 |
So the iPhone 18 Pro Max deal effectively costs you $540 more over three years than Experience More, because it needs Beyond. If you'd choose Beyond anyway for its perks, that cost doesn't matter. If you wouldn't, compare the deal against a cheaper offer on More, such as the Galaxy S26+ or Pixel 11 Pro XL deals, which work on either plan.
Is a trade-in deal better than selling your phone?
T-Mobile's "any condition" trade-in on the iPhone 18 Pro Max is generous: a cracked phone that would sell for little elsewhere counts the same as a perfect one. For a phone in good condition, though, compare. Selling it yourself pays cash today, while T-Mobile's value arrives as credits over three years. Our guide to iPhone trade-ins at carriers vs Apple explains when each wins.
Adding a line: the other way in
Many offers that say "activate a new line" are open to existing customers who add a line to their account. That's a good deal if you were going to add someone anyway, and an expensive one if you weren't: the new line costs money every month for the 36 months of credits. See what adding a line on T-Mobile costs.
Perks you might already have
Before chasing a deal, check what your plan includes. Experience More and Beyond include streaming, in-flight Wi-Fi and data abroad, and T-Mobile Tuesdays gives weekly freebies. Our T-Mobile perks guide lists what each plan gets. T-Mobile's new T-Mix plans let you pick perks instead, which can change which phone deals you qualify for.
Should you upgrade now or wait?
- Black Friday is November 27. T-Mobile usually runs its biggest promotions then, sometimes with better existing-customer terms.
- If your phone works and you're not on a qualifying plan, the deal may cost more than it saves once you count a plan change.
- If you're thinking of leaving T-Mobile within three years, skip credit-based deals. Prepaid brands on T-Mobile's network, like Mint and Metro, cost far less. See T-Mobile vs Mint Mobile.
How to get an upgrade deal
- Open the T-Life app or log in at T-Mobile.com. Upgrade offers for your account show there and can differ from the public deals page.
- Check your plan: most big phone deals need Experience More or Beyond.
- Check your trade-in value in the app before you commit.
- Choose the phone and trade-in, then confirm the credits and the monthly installment in your order summary.
- Keep your order confirmation. If credits don't appear on your bill within two cycles, contact T-Mobile with it.
Our verdict
Existing customers can get most of T-Mobile's phone discounts, but only through a trade-in or a new line, and usually on Experience More or Beyond. The best value right now is a trade-in deal on a plan you'd keep anyway: the Galaxy S26+ or Pixel 11 Pro XL on Experience More, or the iPhone 18 Pro Max on Beyond if your old phone is damaged. If you'd only stay for the credits, a cheaper plan on the same network will save more.
