AT&T labels its biggest phone offers "new and existing customers", which is good news if you're upgrading. Right now that includes the iPhone 18 Pro for $0 and up to $1,200 off the iPhone Duo with a trade-in worth $230 or more, up to $1,200 off the Galaxy Z Fold8 with a trade-in worth $95 or more, and the Pixel 11 Pro for $0 when you trade in any Google Pixel, in any condition. Every deal is paid as bill credits over a 36-month installment agreement, on an eligible plan.

The deals that need a new line
A second group of offers needs no trade-in but does need a new line. Existing customers can get these by adding a line to their account, which only makes sense if you were going to add someone anyway.
| Phone | Monthly after credits | Regular monthly |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone Air | $0.99/mo | $30.56/mo |
| iPhone 17e | $5.99/mo | $19.45/mo |
| iPhone 17 Pro | $14.99/mo | $30.56/mo |
| iPhone 17 Pro Max | $19.99/mo | $33.34/mo |
Remember the new line has its own monthly plan charge for the full 36 months. See what adding a line costs on our AT&T hub before you count the phone as cheap.
Switch-only offers existing customers can't get
AT&T's main switcher offer is up to $800 a line on a reward card to pay off the contract or phone balance at your old carrier. That one is for people joining AT&T. Everything in the tables above is open to existing customers.
What the trade-in thresholds mean
- iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo need a trade-in worth $230 or more. Roughly, that means a recent iPhone in decent condition; older or damaged phones may not reach it. Check the value in the myAT&T app first.
- Galaxy Z Fold8 deals need a trade-in worth only $95 or more, which many older phones meet.
- The Pixel 11 Pro deal is the easiest to qualify for: any Google Pixel counts, any year, any condition. A cracked Pixel 4 in a drawer is enough.
- The "up to" figure depends on what you trade in. A lower-value phone gets a smaller credit.
What you're signing up for
AT&T doesn't take the discount off the phone price. You agree to a 0% APR, 36-month installment plan for the full price, pay sales tax on the full price at checkout, and AT&T credits your bill each month to cancel the installment. If you leave AT&T, change to an ineligible plan or pay the phone off early, the credits stop and the remaining balance is yours.
What a plan change could cost
| Plan | 1 line with AutoPay | 36 months |
|---|---|---|
| Value 2.0 | $50/mo | $1,800 |
| Extra 2.0 | $70/mo | $2,520 |
| Premium 2.0 | $90/mo | $3,240 |
| Elite 2.0 | $110/mo | $3,960 |
If a deal pushes you from Extra 2.0 to Premium 2.0, that's $720 more over three years. A $1,200 phone credit still comes out ahead, but by far less than the headline suggests.
Trade in with AT&T or sell your phone?
On "any condition" offers like the Pixel deal, trading in with AT&T almost always wins: a damaged phone is worth little elsewhere. For a recent iPhone in good condition, selling it yourself can pay more, and you get cash today instead of credits over three years. Our guide to iPhone trade-ins at carriers vs Apple explains when each wins.
Buying online or in store
The deals above are listed online. Stores can apply the same offers, but some add fees or push accessories. Our guide to buying an AT&T phone online or in store compares the two.
Should you upgrade now or wait for Black Friday?
Black Friday is November 27. AT&T's current offers are already at the level it usually advertises then ($0 phones and up to $1,200 off with a trade-in), so waiting is mostly about whether a specific phone gets a better trade-in threshold. If your phone is failing, there's little reason to wait.
How to get an AT&T upgrade deal
- Open the myAT&T app or log in at att.com and choose Upgrade. Your account's offers can differ from the public deals page.
- Check your trade-in value against the threshold ($230 for iPhone 18 Pro and Duo, $95 for Fold8, any Pixel for Pixel 11 Pro).
- Read the offer details for the eligible plan, and whether you'd need to change plans.
- Confirm the 36-month agreement and the monthly credit in your order summary. You'll pay tax on the full price at checkout.
- Send in your trade-in within AT&T's deadline. Credits usually start within two or three bills.
Our verdict
AT&T is the friendliest of the big three to existing customers: its headline phone deals aren't reserved for switchers. The best value is the Pixel 11 Pro for $0 if you have any old Pixel, and the iPhone 18 Pro for $0 if your trade-in clears $230. Both work best if you're already on a qualifying plan and plan to stay three years. If not, a prepaid plan on AT&T's network, like AT&T Prepaid's 12-month plan, costs a fraction as much.
