An APN tells your phone how to reach the carrier's data network. Most Android phones configure it automatically when a Mint SIM goes in, but unlocked and imported handsets sometimes don't — which shows calls and texts working while data or picture messaging fails.
Check these three things first
- Restart the phone with the SIM installed. This alone fixes most APN problems, because the phone re-requests carrier settings on boot.
- Confirm mobile data is on and airplane mode is off, and that the Mint line is selected as the data SIM if the phone holds two.
- Verify activation completed in the Mint app. A pending activation looks exactly like an APN fault.
Where the APN setting lives
Settings > Network & internet > SIMs (or Mobile network) > Access Point Names. The path varies slightly by manufacturer — Samsung nests it under Connections > Mobile networks > Access Point Names.
What to expect once it's right
- Mint runs on T-Mobile's 5G and 4G LTE network, including Ultra Capacity 5G where available.
- Your phone must be unlocked and support T-Mobile's bands — an ex-Verizon or ex-AT&T handset may connect but perform poorly if band support is thin.
- VoLTE has to be enabled for calls to work at all on a modern T-Mobile-network line; it's usually labelled Voice over LTE or VoLTE Calling in the same settings area.
- eSIM activation avoids APN issues almost entirely, and Mint supports it on compatible phones.
If data still won't work
Reset network settings (Settings > System > Reset options > Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth), then reboot. If that fails, the phone is likely locked or missing band support rather than misconfigured — check the lock status before spending more time on APN strings.
Mint's intro rate is $15/mo; renewal is $25 to $40 depending on tier. See how that compares across T-Mobile-network options.
