Metro runs on T-Mobile's network but keeps its own APN, a holdover from the MetroPCS name. Phones bought from Metro set it automatically. Unlocked phones sometimes need it entered by hand.

Key takeaways
Metro's APN is fast.metropcs.com.
MMSC: http://metropcs.mmsmvno.com/mms/wapenc, no proxy or port.
MCC 310, MNC 260.
Restart with the SIM in before editing anything.
If MMS fails, try T-Mobile's MMSC instead.

Check these first

  1. Restart the phone with the SIM or eSIM installed. Most phones request carrier settings again on boot.
  2. Confirm mobile data is on, airplane mode is off, and the right line is set for data on a dual-SIM phone.
  3. Make sure activation finished in the carrier's app. A pending activation looks like an APN problem.

If picture messages still fail, T-Mobile's own MMSC, http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc, also works on many phones.

Where to enter them

  • Android: Settings > Network & internet > SIMs > Access Point Names, then add a new APN. On Samsung: Settings > Connections > Mobile networks > Access Point Names.
  • iPhone: Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Network. This menu only appears when the carrier allows it; most iPhones set the APN automatically.
  • Leave any field not listed blank, save, select the new APN, and restart.
Picture messages failing but data works?
That almost always means the MMSC or MMS proxy is mistyped. Re-enter those two fields exactly, including http://, with no spaces.

If it still won't connect

Reset network settings, restart, and try again. If data still fails, the phone may be locked to another carrier or missing T-Mobile's bands. Check the lock status before spending more time on APN fields.

Is Metro still the right plan?

Metro's plans run $20 to $60/mo. See how it compares with other T-Mobile-network plans.
