The Alcatel Go Flip came out in 2017. Maybe: the carrier versions with VoLTE still work on their original networks; check yours first.
The quick answer
- Calls: usually yes on the carrier it was sold by
- Go Flip 3 and Go Flip 4 are the safest bets
- Moving it to a new carrier is hit or miss
- Check the IMEI before switching
Calls after the 3G shutdown
The Go Flip came in carrier versions: T-Mobile and MetroPCS, Verizon (Go Flip V), and AT&T (sold as the Cingular Flip 2). The 4G versions support VoLTE on their original carrier. The Go Flip 3 (2019) and Go Flip 4 (2022) are newer and better supported. Moving a Go Flip to a different carrier often fails.
How to check yours
- Find the IMEI: dial *#06#, or look in the phone's settings or under the battery.
- Enter it in your carrier's compatibility checker. Every major carrier and most prepaid brands have one.
- If it isn't supported, it's usually missing approval for VoLTE (calls over 4G), which every US phone now needs.
Who it still works for
Fine as a basic phone on its original carrier. If you're switching carriers, check the IMEI or buy a Go Flip 4.
If you're replacing it
If you want to stay with a flip phone, the Nokia 2780 Flip and Kyocera DuraXV Extreme+ are current models with VoLTE. A basic phone pairs well with a small plan: Tello and US Mobile both have plans under $10 a month for talk and text.
Current offers from Metro, T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T and Xfinity.
