Most phones set AT&T's APN automatically. Unlocked and imported phones sometimes don't, which leaves calls working while data or picture messages fail. These are the values AT&T publishes on its support site.

Key takeaways
LTE phones use NXTGENPHONE; 5G phones use ENHANCEDPHONE.
MMSC: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net, proxy proxy.mobile.att.net, port 80.
5G standalone phones use NRPHONE; tablets use Broadband.
Restart with the SIM in before editing anything.
If MMS fails but data works, re-enter the MMSC and proxy.

Check these first

  1. Restart the phone with the SIM or eSIM installed. Most phones request carrier settings again on boot.
  2. Confirm mobile data is on, airplane mode is off, and the right line is set for data on a dual-SIM phone.
  3. Make sure activation finished in the carrier's app. A pending activation looks like an APN problem.

  • 5G standalone phones: AT&T lists NRPHONE as the APN, with MMSC and MMS proxy left blank and APN type default, mms, supl, hipri, fota.
  • Tablets and hotspots: APN Broadband, no MMS fields.

Where to enter them

  • Android: Settings > Network & internet > SIMs > Access Point Names, then add a new APN. On Samsung: Settings > Connections > Mobile networks > Access Point Names.
  • iPhone: Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Network. This menu only appears when the carrier allows it; most iPhones set the APN automatically.
  • Leave any field not listed blank, save, select the new APN, and restart.
Picture messages failing but data works?
That almost always means the MMSC or MMS proxy is mistyped. Re-enter those two fields exactly, including http://, with no spaces.

If it still won't connect

Reset network settings, restart, and try again. If data still fails, the phone may be locked to another carrier or missing AT&T's bands. Check the lock status before spending more time on APN fields.

Paying full price for AT&T?

Cricket and AT&T Prepaid use the same network from $20–$25/mo.
