Total Wireless has four plans on Verizon's network, from $25 to $60 a month with AutoPay. Taxes and fees are included. The cheapest plan, MAX 5G BYO, is also one of the best: unlimited premium data, 5G Ultra Wideband and unlimited hotspot for $25 if you bring your own phone. STARTER costs $10 more and gives you less. The pricier plans make sense if you want a phone deal or Disney+.

Why STARTER is the plan to skip
STARTER is $35 and has no Ultra Wideband, standard data and 10GB of hotspot. MAX 5G BYO is $10 less with premium data, Ultra Wideband and unlimited hotspot. The only reason to choose STARTER is if you want a phone from Total Wireless and don't want to pay $50 for MAX 5G.
MAX 5G vs MAX 5G BYO
The two plans have the same data, network and hotspot. The $25 difference pays for access to Total Wireless phone deals. Work out the deal first: over two years, MAX 5G costs $600 more than BYO. A phone deal is worth it only if it saves you more than that against buying the phone yourself.
Is ALL ACCESS worth $60?
ALL ACCESS adds Disney+ Premium, a faster 10 Mbps hotspot and roaming in 140+ countries. If you already pay for Disney+ Premium or travel abroad a few times a year, the $35 step up from BYO comes back to you. If not, BYO is the better deal.
The 5-year price lock
Total Wireless locks the base price for 5 years. The lock doesn't cover the $5 AutoPay discount, so the price you pay could still rise by $5 if that discount changes.
How it compares
At $25 with taxes included, MAX 5G BYO matches Visible's base plan, and Total's has premium data and Ultra Wideband. See Total Wireless vs Visible and Total Wireless vs Straight Talk, its sister brand.
Families
Total Wireless doesn't show big multi-line discounts on its plan pages; check the site for current family offers. Each MAX 5G BYO line at $25 with taxes included is already in line with most prepaid family prices.
Switching from your carrier to Total Wireless
- Check your phone works on Total Wireless's network and is unlocked (is my phone unlocked?).
- If you're paying off a phone, the remaining balance becomes due when you leave. Pay it off or plan for it (hidden costs of switching).
- Get your account number and number transfer PIN from your carrier. Don't cancel your carrier yourself: the move cancels it.
- Sign up with Total Wireless and choose to keep your number. Most newer phones can use an eSIM, so you're often live within minutes (how to switch to eSIM).
- Total Wireless uses Verizon's network, so check your phone supports it: phones that work with Total Wireless.
Who should pick which
- MAX 5G BYO: almost everyone with their own phone.
- MAX 5G: you want a Total Wireless phone deal worth more than $600 over two years.
- ALL ACCESS: you'd pay for Disney+ Premium anyway or travel abroad.
- STARTER: rarely the right pick.
The bottom line
Bring your own phone and get MAX 5G BYO. It's the best plan Total Wireless sells and one of the best $25 plans on Verizon's network. Pay for MAX 5G only for a phone deal worth more than $600, and ALL ACCESS only if you'd use Disney+ or the international roaming.
