The Punkt MP02 came out in 2018. Maybe: it works on AT&T, but T-Mobile doesn't support its VoLTE and Verizon doesn't work at all.
The quick answer
- Calls: yes on AT&T; unreliable on T-Mobile; no on Verizon
- Includes Signal messaging and hotspot
- Software updates have slowed
- Check the IMEI before switching
Calls after the 3G shutdown
The MP02 is a Swiss design sold unlocked. Punkt lists AT&T as fully supported, with VoLTE verified. T-Mobile coverage works, but VoLTE isn't supported, so calls can be unreliable. Verizon isn't supported.
How to check yours
- Find the IMEI: dial *#06#, or look in the phone's settings or under the battery.
- Enter it in your carrier's compatibility checker. Every major carrier and most prepaid brands have one.
- If it isn't supported, it's usually missing approval for VoLTE (calls over 4G), which every US phone now needs.
Who it still works for
A good minimalist phone on AT&T or an AT&T-based brand. On T-Mobile or Verizon, the Light Phone II is a better fit.
If you're replacing it
If you want to stay with a flip phone, the Nokia 2780 Flip and Kyocera DuraXV Extreme+ are current models with VoLTE. A basic phone pairs well with a small plan: Tello and US Mobile both have plans under $10 a month for talk and text.
Current offers from Metro, T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T and Xfinity.
