The Razr V3 came out in 2004 and became one of the best-selling flip phones ever. It can't be used as a phone in the US any more.
The quick answer
- Calls and texts: no, on any US carrier
- Why: it only supports 2G GSM and early 3G, both shut down
- Still works: the screen, camera and stored contacts, offline
- Worth keeping as a collectible
Why it can't connect
The original Razr V3 was built for 2G GSM networks. US carriers have shut down their 2G and 3G networks, and every phone now needs 4G LTE with VoLTE to make calls. There's no update or setting that can fix that; the radio inside doesn't support it.
Collector value
Clean, working V3s in their original box still sell to collectors, especially rarer colours like pink and black. A fully working battery and screen matter more than the carrier it was locked to.
Who it still works for
Collectors and anyone who wants the nostalgia. For a working flip phone today, look at the 2024-2026 Motorola Razr foldables, or a basic 4G flip like the Nokia 2780.
If you're replacing it
For the flip experience with a modern network, the current Motorola Razr foldables work on every carrier, and Metro and T-Mobile regularly discount them. For a basic, cheap flip phone, the Nokia 2780 Flip supports 4G and VoLTE.
Current offers from Metro, T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T and Xfinity.
