The Huawei P30 or Mate 20 came out in 2019. Mostly no for calls: Huawei phones were never sold in the US, so carriers don't approve their VoLTE.
The quick answer
- Calls: unreliable on all US carriers
- Google Play: yes on these two models
- Later Huawei phones (P40 and newer) have no Google apps
- Data may work on T-Mobile or AT&T
Calls after the 3G shutdown
These phones support some US 4G bands but miss others, such as T-Mobile's band 71. US carriers don't list them for VoLTE, so calls often fail. Both models launched before the 2019 US ban, so they still have Google Play, unlike later Huawei phones.
Who it still works for
Fine as a Wi-Fi device. For calls in the US, use a phone sold here.
If you're replacing it
A new moto g 2026 or Galaxy A17 costs little, gets years of updates, and several carriers give them away when you switch. Pair it with a low-cost plan such as Mint Mobile ($15 a month for 6GB on a 12-month term) or Visible ($25 for unlimited, taxes included).
Current offers from Metro, T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T and Xfinity.
