The Gabb Phone came out in 2019. Yes: Gabb phones still work, but only on Gabb's own service.
The quick answer
- Calls: yes, on Gabb Wireless
- Locked to Gabb's service
- No browser or social apps by design
- Older models get fewer updates
Calls after the 3G shutdown
Gabb phones are built for Gabb Wireless, which runs on Verizon's network, and are tied to its plans. Older models such as the original Gabb Phone still connect, though Gabb encourages upgrades to the Gabb Phone 4 line. They generally can't be moved to another carrier.
How to check yours
- Find the IMEI: dial *#06#, or look in the phone's settings or under the battery.
- Enter it in your carrier's compatibility checker. Every major carrier and most prepaid brands have one.
- If it isn't supported, it's usually missing approval for VoLTE (calls over 4G), which every US phone now needs.
Who it still works for
Parents who want a first phone with no internet. If you leave Gabb, you'll need a new phone.
If you're replacing it
If you want to stay with a flip phone, the Nokia 2780 Flip and Kyocera DuraXV Extreme+ are current models with VoLTE. A basic phone pairs well with a small plan: Tello and US Mobile both have plans under $10 a month for talk and text.
Current offers from Metro, T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T and Xfinity.
