How to Add a Line on Verizon and What It Costs

Verizon's price per line drops as you add lines, so a new line can lower everyone's price. Here's what each plan costs by line count, and how to add one.

On Verizon, each line is priced by how many lines are on the account, so adding one lowers the price per line. Unlimited Plus is $80 a month for one line with AutoPay, $55 a line with three and $45 a line with four or more. Unlimited Ultimate is $95, $70 and $60. Verizon also charges a one-time $40 activation fee per new line, which it sometimes waives online.

Verizon's myPlan prices every line on its own plan, and the per-line price is set by how many phone lines are on the account. So you can put one person on Unlimited Ultimate and the rest on Unlimited Plus, and everyone still gets the multi-line price.

Going from three lines to four is the cheapest line you'll add, because every line drops to the four-line price. After four, each line costs the full four-line price.

Extras that add to the per-line price

  • Perks (streaming services, extra hotspot, travel passes) are priced per line on top of the plan.
  • AutoPay matters: Unlimited Plus is $80 for one line with AutoPay and $90 without.
  • Smartwatches, tablets and hotspots need their own connected-device plans, billed separately from phone lines.
  • Device protection is charged per phone.

One-time fees

Verizon charges a $40 activation fee per new line. It's often waived when you add a line online or bring your own phone, so check at checkout. A financed phone adds its own monthly payment, usually over 36 months.

How to add a line

  1. Sign in to the My Verizon app or verizon.com as the account owner or an account manager.
  2. Choose to add a line, and pick a new number or bring one from another carrier.
  3. Pick the plan for that line; each line can have a different plan.
  4. Buy a phone or bring your own compatible, unlocked phone.
  5. Activate with eSIM in the app, or with a SIM card. If you're bringing a number, have the other carrier's account number and transfer PIN ready.

Ways to pay less for the new line

  • Add it when Verizon is running a new-line promo; new lines often qualify for phone deals that upgrades don't.
  • Bring your own phone to skip the device payment and often the activation fee.
  • Put lighter users on a cheaper plan; on myPlan you can mix plans.
  • If the person doesn't need Verizon's perks, a separate line on Visible uses the same network for $25 a month, taxes included.
