How to Cancel T-Mobile Service (2026 Guide)

To cancel T-Mobile, call 1-877-746-0909 or dial 611 — there's no online or chatbot cancellation. Keeping your number? Don't cancel; port to your new carrier and the line closes itself.

Deploying? Use Service Pause instead of canceling — you keep your number and account.

To cancel T-Mobile Wireless, call 1-877-746-0909 or dial 611 from your T-Mobile phone — T-Mobile doesn't process cancellations through chatbots or social media, which just redirect to phone. The call typically takes 30–45 minutes. But if you're switching carriers and keeping your number, don't cancel: start the transfer with your new carrier, and the completed port closes your T-Mobile line automatically.

Key takeaways
Call 1-877-746-0909 or 611 — no online/chatbot cancellation.
Keeping your number? Port instead — canceling releases it.
No ETF, but device balances come due and the final bill isn't prorated.
Military: use Service Pause, not cancellation.
Port, don't cancel, to keep your number
Canceling first permanently releases your number. If you're switching carriers, follow the port process instead and let the transfer close your line.

How to cancel

  1. Call 1-877-746-0909 or dial 611 (or 1-800-937-8997; TTY 1-800-676-3777).
  2. Verify identity (account number, PIN, ZIP).
  3. Decline retention offers — saying you've already signed up elsewhere usually ends the pitch.
  4. Get a cancellation confirmation number and exact disconnection date in writing.

Only the Primary Account Holder can cancel. Corporate T-Mobile stores can cancel in person (authorized retailers and Metro-branded stores generally can't). There's no full online cancellation — by design.

The real cost: device balances
Remaining device installments become due in full and bill credits stop — so a “free” financed phone effectively becomes a paid one. Check T-Life > Account > Device payment before calling.

Fees, timing, and after

  • No ETF — T-Mobile eliminated them; the lock-in is device installments and promo credits.
  • Cancellation is future-dated to the end of your billing cycle, and the final bill is typically NOT prorated — time it near cycle end.
  • Turn off auto-pay first if you want to review charges.
  • Return a Home Internet 5G Gateway or leased gear within 30 days (up to $370 unreturned).
  • Watch for up to two more invoices due to billing timing.

Military deployment? Request Service Pause instead of canceling — it suspends billing while keeping your number and account, so you don't start over when you return.

Canceling to save money?

Mint Mobile and US Mobile use T-Mobile's exact network for far less — porting takes 30 minutes vs. a 45-minute cancel call.

Frequently asked questions

Can I cancel T-Mobile online or by chat? +
No — chatbots and social media redirect to phone. Cancellation requires calling 1-877-746-0909/611 or visiting a corporate store.
Does T-Mobile charge a cancellation fee? +
No ETF. You still owe remaining device installments in full, forfeit promo credits, and pay the final (non-prorated) cycle; a $50 restocking fee applies to recently bought devices (all states except Hawaii).
Will my final bill be prorated? +
Typically no — cancellation is future-dated to your cycle end and bills the full month. Time it near the cycle end to avoid waste.
Can I cancel one line and keep the others? +
Yes — call 611 to remove a single line. That line's device payments come due; other lines continue normally.
