Flex Mobile is a prepaid carrier on T-Mobile's network, run by Excess Telecom. It's aimed at people who have been asked for a deposit or turned down somewhere else: there is no credit check, no deposit and no contract. It sells three plans and markets them as a membership, with reward points and travel perks on top of the service.
Flex Mobile plans
| Plan | Data | Prepay 3 months | Prepay 6 months | Regular price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Flex Standard | 5GB | $39 ($13/mo) | $66 ($11/mo) | $16/mo |
| Flex Unlimited | Unlimited, with hotspot | $69 ($23/mo) | $120 ($20/mo) | $29/mo |
| Flex Unlimited Plus | Unlimited, with hotspot, Canada and Mexico roaming | $90 ($30/mo) | $162 ($27/mo) | $44/mo |
Flex's plan page lists prices with taxes included, no activation fee and no early termination fee. Its Broadband Facts label says the intro rate lasts three months, so if you prepay six months, confirm when the regular price starts before you pay. Every plan with its own review: Flex Mobile plans compared.
Which plan to pick
Flex Unlimited at $29 is the plan that holds up after the intro ends: unlimited data and unlimited hotspot on T-Mobile's network for less than most unlimited plans. Flex Standard is cheap for the first few months, but at $16 for 5GB it costs more than Mint Mobile and Tello on the same network. Unlimited Plus only makes sense if you cross into Canada or Mexico a few times a year: the extra $15 a month is $180 a year.
No credit check, no deposit
Because Flex is prepaid, there is nothing to approve: you pay before you use the service. What you give up is network priority. Flex is an MVNO, so its customers are deprioritized behind T-Mobile's own when a tower is busy. Compare other options in our best no-credit-check phone plans.
Speeds and coverage
Coverage matches T-Mobile's 5G and 4G LTE map. Flex's Broadband Facts labels list typical speeds of 75 to 355 Mbps down and 8 to 35 Mbps up, with 21 to 35 ms latency. Flex Standard includes 5GB of data a month; both Unlimited plans have no data limit.
Support and managing your account
Call Flex Mobile at (833) 711-9439, or sign in at app.getflexmobile.com or in the My Flex Mobile app to change plans, pay your bill and check data use. Activation is by eSIM in minutes on most recent phones, or by physical SIM. Support is a smaller operation than the big carriers', and Flex has a shorter track record than Mint or Visible.
How to switch to Flex Mobile and keep your number
Your phone must be unlocked. Get your current carrier's account number and transfer PIN, order Flex and start the transfer. Keep your old SIM in until Flex confirms the transfer, then switch to the Flex SIM or eSIM. Here is where to find the account number and PIN at common carriers:
| Carrier | Account number and PIN |
|---|---|
| Verizon | Turn off Number Lock. Account number in My Verizon; PIN under My Profile, Number Transfer PIN, Generate PIN. |
| Verizon Prepaid | Turn off Number Lock, then dial #PORT (#7678) for a text with the account number and a PIN link. |
| AT&T | Account number in the myAT&T app; PIN under More, Manage Profile, People & Permissions, Transfer Phone Number. |
| AT&T Prepaid | Call 800-901-9878 for the account number. No PIN needed. |
| Cricket | Account number in the myCricket app; dial *PORT (*7678) for the PIN. |
| Mint Mobile | Call 800-683-7392 for the account number; the PIN is the last 4 digits of your Mint number. |
| Boost Mobile | Call 833-502-6678 for both. |
| Xfinity Mobile | Account number on your bill; PIN in your online account under Devices, Transfer your number. |
| Total Wireless | Call 1-866-663-3633 for both. |
| Optimum Mobile | Account number in MyMobile; call 866-200-7186 for a PIN that lasts 7 days. |

Who Flex Mobile suits
Flex suits someone who needs a working line without a credit check and wants unlimited data on T-Mobile's network for under $30. If you'd rather have a longer track record, Mint sits on the same network. If Verizon covers your area better, Visible is $25 a month with taxes included, and Twigby is cheaper for light data users.
