Flex Mobile is a prepaid MVNO running on T-Mobile's network, operated by Excess Telecom. It sells three plans — 5GB at $16, unlimited at $29, and an unlimited tier with Canada and Mexico roaming at $44 — and markets itself as a wireless membership rather than a phone plan, bundling reward points, travel perks and shopping discounts into every tier.
The prices you see advertised are not the prices you pay. Every tier is sold at an introductory rate that runs for three months and then steps up to the list price, and on the top tier that step is 47%. New customers on the entry plan can do better still — $15 up front covers three months, a $5 monthly equivalent — but the same line renews at $16. This page quotes the list price throughout, because that is the number that applies from month four onward for as long as you keep the line.

What it really costs
New customers can get Flex Standard for $15 total. Code FLEXSTANDARD15 takes a single $15 payment up front covering three months of 5GB service — $5 a month equivalent — after which the line renews at the $16 list price. Autopay is required, it is new customers only, and it cannot be combined with other offers. As a way to test the network for a quarter it is hard to fault. Just note what month four costs: the same service goes from $5 to $16, and Flex's own marketing compares that $5 promo rate against $40+ from the major carriers, which is not a like-for-like comparison.
Without the promo code, the advertised price is still an introductory rate. On a 3-month term, Flex Standard is $13, Unlimited is $23 and Unlimited Plus is $30. On a 6-month term those drop to $11, $20 and $27. In every case the FCC label on Flex Mobile's own page says the introductory rate applies for three months — so a 6-month term buys a lower headline price, not a longer discount. Confirm the repricing date with Flex before committing to the longer term.
List prices from month four are $16, $29 and $44. The step-up on Unlimited Plus is 47%, the largest in the lineup and the one most likely to surprise someone.
What Flex does not charge is genuinely clean: $0 activation, no bring-your-own-device fee, no early termination fee, and no overage charges. Government fees run $0.25 to $0.72 a month depending on tier, plus local taxes. There is no junk here.
At the entry tier the value is thin at list price. $16 for 5GB sits against Mint at $15 for 5GB and Tello at $15 for 10GB — both on the same T-Mobile network. On the promo it is the cheapest quarter of service in this comparison by a wide margin; from month four it is the most expensive per gigabyte. At $29 unlimited the comparison turns in Flex's favour, which is why that is the tier to keep.
