Charter Communications closed its $34.5 billion acquisition of Cox on August 20, 2026. Cox internet, TV and mobile customers are now Spectrum customers, and Spectrum started offering its full lineup in former Cox areas in mid-September. For mobile customers, the short version is that nothing changes straight away, and there's a free year of service on offer if you have Cox Internet but not Cox Mobile.
If you're a Cox Mobile customer
- Your plan, price, billing date and phone number stay the same for now.
- Your login and account details stay the same.
- Your bill will start to show Spectrum Mobile instead of Cox Mobile.
- Existing promotions and discounts are honored under your current terms.
- Customer service moves to Spectrum within the next year.
Spectrum says it will let Cox customers compare their current plan with Spectrum's and move over if they want to. You don't have to switch. New customers already go straight to Spectrum Mobile plans.
The free year of Spectrum Mobile
Cox Internet customers who don't already have Cox Mobile can get one line of Spectrum Mobile free for a year. Spectrum hasn't published every term, and details are confirmed when you sign up. Ask what the line costs from month 13 before you move a number onto it.
Should you stay, move to Spectrum's plans, or leave?
Cable mobile plans are usually cheapest when you keep the home internet that goes with them. If you're thinking of dropping Cox Internet at some point, price your phone plan without it first. A prepaid plan on the same network may cost less with no internet tie-in.
