Pricing: an intro rate, then a different plan

$45 buys the first three months — $15/mo — and then it renews at $35/mo. Signup is online only. You get 30GB at up to 3 Mbps and then 1.5 Mbps for the rest of the cycle. 3 Mbps handles SD video, music, maps and browsing perfectly well — it does not handle HD streaming, large downloads or video calls comfortably. A 5GB hotspot is available as a $10/mo add-on.

Judge it on the $35, not the $15. At that price AT&T's own 12-month plan is about $20/mo with priority data, no speed cap on its 16GB, and a 10GB hotspot included — $15 a month less for materially more plan, if you can put $240 down at once.

Final Verdict

A good three months and a mediocre fourth. At $15/mo, 30GB at 3 Mbps on AT&T's own towers is a genuinely cheap way onto the network, and 3 Mbps is more usable than the throttles most budget carriers impose. At the $35 it renews to, AT&T undercuts it with its own annual plan at about $20/mo — uncapped on its first 16GB, with a 10GB hotspot included. Take the intro, then decide again in month four.
