Pricing: the annual rate is the only interesting one

4GB runs $19 monthly, $16 on three months, $15 on six and $13 on twelve. Bought by the month it's poor value: plenty of carriers sell more data for $19. Bought by the year it's one of the cheapest legitimate smartphone lines in the US.

Ultra currently discounts this tier to $10/mo for new customers on any multi-month term: $30, $60 or $120 upfront. That covers the initial term only, after which the plan sits at its regular rate. It's a 43% increase, so plan for it.

The right entry point at Ultra and a better buy than Talk & Text for almost everyone: eight times the data for less money on a year. 4GB is enough if your phone spends most of its day on Wi-Fi and you mainly need maps, messaging and calls, and the unlimited calling to 90+ countries that comes with it is the real draw. If you regularly use cellular data for anything visual, step up: 8GB is only $2.80/mo more on the same term.

Consider instead: Ultra Mobile 25GB. Ultra's value pick. Three times the data for $4.90/mo more on an annual term, with the same international calling and a renewal rate of $20.
