Lycamobile $15 (1GB) Review

$96 for twelve months works out to $8/mo, against $15 for a single 30-day cycle. It's the lowest annual figure in the lineup and one of the lowest real prices in US prepaid.

The problem is internal. Lycamobile's 8GB plan is $108 a year: twelve dollars more for eight times the data. Unless a dollar a month genuinely matters, that's the plan to buy instead.

A legitimately cheap line for someone who uses their phone as a phone: unlimited US talk and text, unlimited calling to 100 countries, eight dollars a month. But it's undercut by its own sibling, the 8GB plan costs $12 more across a whole year. Buy this only if the data allowance is genuinely irrelevant to you, or you want the absolute lowest annual outlay.

Consider instead: Lycamobile $23 (8GB). Eight times the data for twelve dollars more across a full year, plus a $5 roaming credit. The better buy for almost everyone.

How much is Lycamobile's $15 plan?

$15 for 30 days, $18 for three months, $48 for six or $96 for twelve: about $8/mo on the annual term. Taxes and fees are extra.

How much data does it include?

1GB of high-speed data per month. That covers messaging, maps and light browsing between Wi-Fi sessions, not streaming.

Does it include international calling?

Yes: unlimited talk and text to 100 countries, included on every Lycamobile plan from the $15 tier upward.

Does the plan include hotspot?

Lycamobile publishes a hotspot allowance on some tiers and not others. Its own promotional listings state 8GB of hotspot on the 8GB plan and 15GB on both the 15GB and Unlimited Plus plans. For the tiers where no figure is published, treat hotspot as unconfirmed rather than absent.

Are the long-term prices permanent?

No. They're promotional against a list price roughly three times higher, so check what the plan renews at before committing to twelve months.
