What Apple's terms say

Apple Card Monthly Installments, the 0% APR route to $83.29 a month, requires selecting AT&T, T-Mobile or Verizon as your carrier at checkout. Apple's terms state plainly that prepaid carrier plans are not supported. The Apple Upgrade lease, which starts at $57.99 a month for 24 months, carries the same restriction: an eligible carrier is required, and a prepaid carrier plan does not qualify.

So what are your options on prepaid?

1. Pay in full. $1,999 for the 256GB model, up to 2TB available. The phone arrives unlocked and activates on any carrier that supports eSIM.
2. Trade in first. Apple Trade In offers $175 to $885 in credit toward iPhone Duo for an iPhone 13 or newer, which comes off the purchase price directly.
3. Finance on a postpaid line, then leave later. The phone is unlocked, but the installment balance stays with you and carrier promotional credits stop if you cancel — see our deals coverage before trying this.
4. Skip it. The plan savings on prepaid are the point; a $1,999 handset undoes roughly three years of them.

The math worth doing

A prepaid line at $25 to $35 all-in saves roughly $45 a month against a comparable postpaid plan, or about $1,620 over three years. Financing iPhone Duo through a postpaid carrier to get the monthly payment means giving most of that back. Buying outright and staying on prepaid keeps it, at the cost of $1,999 upfront.

One more requirement

Whatever route you take, the carrier has to support eSIM. iPhone Duo has no SIM tray, so a prepaid brand that still ships physical SIMs only cannot activate it at all.
