The prepay gap is the whole decision. Premium is $44/mo billed monthly and $32.50 on annual prepay: $299 for the year, an effective $24.90/mo in the first year. Buying monthly costs about a third more for identical service.
Taxes are already in. Both plans are quoted all-in, so compare $32.50 against other carriers' post-tax totals rather than their advertised numbers. It's usually worth $3–5/mo more than it looks.
Starter is priced to be left. $25 gets you a high-speed allotment and then deprioritization, with a modest hotspot. It's a fine way to test a network for a month; it isn't where the value is.
The feature you can't buy elsewhere: network choice, changeable after activation. Every other MVNO locks you to whichever host carrier it resells, and coverage varies enough street to street that the option has real value.

Does US Mobile include taxes and fees?+
Yes, on both plans. The advertised price is what you pay, which makes US Mobile directly comparable to Visible and Cricket rather than to carriers that quote pre-tax.
Is there a free trial?+
Yes: 30 days, but unlike most trials it requires you to port a number in first, to either Warp or Dark Star, and the line then renews onto monthly Unlimited Premium unless you change it. That's twice as long as Visible's 15-day trial.
What's the catch with Unlimited Starter?+
It has a high-speed allotment and then deprioritizes, and hotspot is modest. At $25 it's good for testing a network or for light use, but Premium is where the plan stops making compromises.
