Pricing: ten dollars, monthly

$10 a month with no term. Tello does not require a multi-month prepay to reach this rate, which is what separates it from Ultra Mobile and Lycamobile at similar prices.

Taxes and fees are extra and Tello does not publish the amount.

Final Verdict

7.8/10 · Tello Starter

The plan most people looking at Tello should actually buy. Two gigabytes covers maps, verification codes and messaging, the hotspot allowance matches the data rather than being withheld, and nothing has to be paid upfront. It is not a plan for streaming, and it is not the cheapest thing Tello sells, but it is the cheapest one that behaves like a normal phone.

Consider instead: Tello Everyday. Five dollars more buys 10GB and 10GB of hotspot: five times the data for half again the price, and the best value on Tello's ladder.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is 2GB enough?

For email, maps and messaging with Wi-Fi at home, usually yes. Streaming video uses about 1GB an hour, so 2GB runs out fast if you watch anything on cellular. Tello Everyday doubles as a step up at 10GB for $15.

What network does Tello use?

T-Mobile's 5G and 4G LTE network. Coverage is the same as T-Mobile's map, but as a prepaid MVNO your data can be slower than T-Mobile's own customers when a tower is busy.

Are taxes included in Tello's price?

No. Tello adds taxes, which vary by location, and a small cost-recovery fee of up to 30 cents a month. There is no activation fee and no contract.

Can I change my Tello plan later?

Yes, at any time and for free. You can move up or down a tier, or build your own mix of minutes and data, with no penalty.

Does Tello work with eSIM?

Yes. You can activate on an eSIM in a few minutes or order a free physical SIM, and you can bring your own unlocked phone and keep your number.
