Fargo Police are investigating a surge in Verizon-related fraud reported over the past week. Investigators warn that scammers are using stolen personal information to hijack existing accounts or open new ones to purchase high-end electronics, including iPhones and modems.
In a common twist, victims receive a call from a fake “Verizon Security” agent claiming fraud has been detected. The scammer then asks for remote access to the victim’s phone and instructs them to use a provided “return label” to ship any unauthorized packages back to the company. In reality, these labels redirect the stolen goods straight to the scammers.
