T-Mobile Home Internet: Upload Speeds Up for Some Regions

T-Mobile Home Internet users are now seeing faster upload speeds in select areas. Here's why.

T-Mobile Home Internet: Upload Speeds Up for Some Regions

T-Mobile Home Internet is getting an upgrade, which means faster upload speeds for some customers.

If you have the G4AR gateway and the latest software, you might be seeing improvements right now.

This upgrade brings '5G Standalone' or 'pure 5G' to your home internet, a technology that's already used on many T-Mobile smartphones.

How pure 5G expands home internet

Previously, T-Mobile Home Internet used a mix of 5G and older LTE technology for uploads, which limited speeds.

This was fine for browsing and streaming, but it made things like video calls and uploading large files slower. The new 'pure 5G' connection changes that, providing a more direct and efficient 5G signal.

Users who have got the update have reported better upload speeds, with some noticing smoother online gaming and video calls. Plus, because 'pure 5G' doesn't rely on LTE, T-Mobile could expand its home internet service to more areas.

Could this mean faster speeds?

Looking ahead, this upgrade opens the door for even faster speeds through 'carrier aggregation,' which combines multiple 5G channels. T-Mobile has demonstrated speeds over 3 gigabits per second with this technology.

They could also use 'network slicing' to create dedicated network lanes for services that need guaranteed speeds, like emergency responders, or even offer premium subscriptions for customers.

For now, this upgrade is limited to the G4AR gateway with the 1.00.13 firmware update. T-Mobile hasn't announced when other gateways will receive this update or when they'll implement carrier aggregation or network slicing for home internet customers.

But these changes signal a big step towards improving T-Mobile's home internet service.
