Save on Home Internet: Verizon's Special Offer for Mobile Customers

Verizon is expanding its bundled service savings, offering a $15 monthly discount on home internet for all mobile subscribers, alongside entertainment perks. Their aim is to accelerate growth in its 5G Home wireless and FIOS fiber internet user base.

The home internet plan discount explained

The discount applies to any home internet plan, with premium plans receiving an additional $10 perk credit towards entertainment subscriptions. This initiative builds on Verizon's "myPlan" mobile and "myHome" internet offerings, both launched last June, which allow users to customize their services with add-on perks like Netflix and HBO at discounted rates.

"You can describe it as convergence, the Verizon way. It's simple and you get great value for the money that is unique," said Frank Boulben, chief revenue officer for Verizon Consumer Group, emphasizing the exclusive partnerships behind the perks. Mobile and home internet customers also gain access to premium customer care, ensuring faster support responses.

Adoption of mobile and internet services

This discount isn't about luring competitors’ subscribers, but rather driving adoption of combined mobile and internet services, particularly 5G Home. Boulben noted that 75-80% of fixed wireless access (FWA) sign-ups are from existing mobile customers.

"If I look at our fixed wireless access space, roughly speaking, 75 to 80% is to existing mobile subscribers. So it's largely a cross-sell on the fixed wireless side," Boulben said. "When we sell fixed wireless access on a standalone basis, a number of those customers take mobile afterwards."

Addressing challenges with fixed wireless access

Verizon is also addressing awareness challenges surrounding FWA. Customers sometimes mistake 5G Home for a mobile hotspot, rather than a full home internet replacement. "5G Home [customers] maybe wrongly believe that it's a kind of mobile hotspot, so I think we need to continue and communicate about the fact that it's a complete replacement for your home internet connectivity," Boulben said.

As of last October, Verizon boasted 4.6 million FWA subscribers out of 12.3 million total internet connections, including FIOS. FWA is driving growth, adding 373,000 net customers in the last quarter, compared to FIOS's 51,000. Cable internet is experiencing consistent subscriber losses.

Verizon's FIOS footprint covers 18 million households, primarily in the Northeast, with plans to expand by 650,000 households in 2025 and one million annually thereafter. FWA availability is much broader, covering 60 million locations.
